Spray-on polyurea for overland builds
Seamless polyurea protection for overland trucks, 4x4s and trailers. It takes rock rash, brush, mud and road salt in stride, and it’s sprayed by certified ArmorThane applicators.
Where it goes
Tap a hotspot to see how polyurea protects it, or switch to the trailer. Anything you can unbolt — or roll into a bay — can be coated.
The first thing to meet a stump during a recovery. Polyurea flexes with rock strikes and cable wear instead of chipping down to bare steel.
Skid plates exist to get hit. A thick, elastic layer absorbs the scrape, quiets the drum of gravel and keeps rust from starting at every gouge.
Tires sandblast the wheel wells all day. A sprayed lining seals the seams, stops the chips and noticeably deadens road noise.
Sliders carry the weight of the rig on rock. Coated sliders scrape and slide without turning orange after the first trip.
UV, ladder scuffs and tent hardware chew up rack finishes. Coat the platform once and stop touching up powder coat every season.
Drawer systems, fuel cans and recovery gear grind on the bed floor. A spray-in liner seals every seam and grips cargo so it stays put.
Rocks thrown off the tow rig's tires hit the tongue first. Polyurea takes the chips so the frame doesn't rust from the front back.
Jerry cans, propane and tools rattle around in here. A lined box is waterproof, quiet and easy to hose out at the end of a trip.
Brush pinstriping and trail rash land on the tub sides. A seamless coat seals rivets and panel joints against water and dust.
Fenders take a direct hit from every rock the tire throws. A textured polyurea layer won't crack the way paint or gelcoat does.
Tent hardware, UV and ladder feet wear through rack finishes fast. Polyurea keeps the platform sealed and grippy.
Creek crossings, mud and road salt attack what you never see. Underbody coating keeps water out of welds, and potable-rated linings exist for onboard tanks.
Anatomy of the armor
Paint and powder coat are a few thousandths of an inch of hard film. A polyurea system is built far thicker and stays elastic, so impacts get absorbed instead of cracking through to metal.
Build your finish
Polyurea can be tinted and topcoated to match your build. Try a few combinations, then send the one you like with your quote.

Texture
A balanced texture: hides scuffs, still easy to clean. The go-to for bumpers, sliders and racks.

How finishes stack up
An honest look at how common finishes hold up on parts that live in the rocks. Ratings are relative, for overland use, from our guides and applicator feedback.
How it works
Vehicle, the parts you want covered and a finish. One minute, no account.

Hardware off, surfaces profiled, then the coating goes on and sets in seconds.
Most parts are ready to handle within hours. Then go find the rocks.

For shops & builders
Overland shops, fabricators and upfitters turn away coating work every week. ArmorThane supplies the spray rigs, the training and the material to start a polyurea business, or to add it to the bays you already run.

Don’t see yours? Ask it in the quote form and an applicator will answer.
Ask a questionPolyurea is a two-part elastomer sprayed hot through a plural-component rig. It sets in seconds into a seamless, rubber-tough membrane that flexes on impact instead of chipping. On an overland build that means bumpers, sliders, skid plates and trailer tubs that shrug off rock rash, brush and creek crossings without the chip-and-rust cycle paint and powder coat fall into.
Most of the time is prep: removing hardware, cleaning, sanding or blasting and masking. The coating itself gels in seconds and is typically ready for light handling within hours. A set of parts or a bed is often a one- to two-day job; a full trailer or full-exterior job takes longer. Your applicator will give you an exact schedule.
Yes. Polyurea can be pigmented, and an aliphatic topcoat goes over it to lock in color and block UV so black stays black instead of going chalky. Textured black, coyote tan, OD green and gunmetal are popular on overland builds, and custom color matching is available.
Far less than steel armor. Weight depends on the area coated and the film thickness, so a set of sliders or a skid plate adds very little, while a full exterior adds more. Your applicator can recommend thicker coverage where impacts happen and a lighter build elsewhere.
Only with products certified for potable water. Standard polyurea is not meant for drinking-water contact, so ask for a lining that carries NSF/ANSI 61 certification for the tank. Our water tank guide covers what to check before you fill it.
It depends on the part, the square footage, the prep the surface needs and the finish. Bumpers and sliders cost far less than a full trailer or full-exterior job. Send us your rig and the areas you want covered and an applicator will quote it, free and with no obligation.
